WIRED WEST · ROKU TEST BUILD
Take the reins of your Roku.
Directions, Home, Back, star/options, playback and typing from the Remote Ranger web controller. A quiet Windows bridge connects to Roku on its home network.
Controls only. Live viewing of Roku’s Home screen and other apps is not available in this build. Streaming Stick testing is still required.

Download Windows + Roku test kit
Download just the native Roku channel ZIP · Checksums
The complete kit includes its Windows runtime and optional Roku channel. Roku installs a channel ZIP, not an APK.
Start here
- Extract the complete kit on a Windows PC beside your Roku. Double-click Start Remote Ranger TV Bridge.vbs.
- On Roku, enable Settings → System → Advanced system settings → Control by mobile apps → Enabled.
- Click Find my TV, select your Roku, and connect. If needed, enter its IP from Settings → Network → About.
- Use the directions, OK, Home, Back and playback buttons. Menu means Roku’s ★ options. The mouse wheel and keyboard can navigate too.
- For help from elsewhere, choose Allow assistance & show code. Your helper opens the TV test controller with their private controller key and enters those nine digits.
Keep this computer awake and the bridge running. Codes expire after five minutes. Either person can stop. Volume and TV power appear only when the device reports support. No router port forwarding is needed.
Optional channel on the Roku
The native channel displays the Roku address and an input-test screen. It is useful for testing; you do not need it installed for the PC remote controls.
- Enable developer mode with the physical remote: Home ×3, Up ×2, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right. Follow the TV’s developer terms, restart and password prompts.
- Open the Roku’s local installer address in your PC browser. Sign in as rokudev using the password you chose.
- Upload Remote-Ranger-Roku-0.1.zip. This replaces any existing sideloaded developer channel.
- Try the web controls and watch the marker move. Home closes the channel while the PC bridge stays available.
What the picture limitation means
Roku’s documented screenshot tool captures a developer channel’s own interface. It does not provide a verified live picture of the entire device. The test kit includes our capture investigation and physical-device test steps. A cloud emulator cannot show your physical stick.
Installed and tested on a 43-inch Hisense Roku TV running OS 15.3.4: Home, channel launch, directions and OK worked, and the test channel rendered correctly. The TV rejected captures of its system screen and Home. Streaming Stick testing is still required.
Independent developer test software. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Roku. Firmware and platform permissions may limit control.
